Scott Sky Smith

Scott Sky Smith is a nationally recognized aviation writer and speaker, writing for international aviation magazines that include: Private Pilot, Custom Planes, Cessna Owners Magazine, Piper Owners Magazine, US Aviator and Sport Aerobatics. His writing includes a monthly column called “Affordable Flying” for Private Pilot and “Sky Surfing” for Custom Planes Magazines. He also writes a question and answer column about aircraft sales for Aero Trader. He has published a book called "How to buy a Skymaster” and a new book called ”How To Buy A Single-Engine Airplane” published by Motorbooks International available at book stores.

Additionally, Scott Sky Smith is the owner of SkySmith Inc., which is a diversified aviation services company. SkySmith owns an aviation insurance agency that is the “Preferred Agency” for the, The Skymaster Club, Glastar Association International and the RV Aircraft. SkySmith Inc. also sells aircraft and pilot supplies and support products such as: GPS systems, headsets, hats, shirts, service manuals, parts manuals, etc.

As a speaker, Scott Sky Smith, has given educational seminars at aviation conferences and airshows such as Oshkosh, AOPA’s Annual Convention, Arlington EAA Regional, Iowa Aviation Conference, Oregon Aviation Conference, Copperstate, Golden West, Sun N Fun and more. Presentations include aircraft issues such as cost of ownership, insurance, finance, selecting, buying and selling aircraft.

Other aviation experiences include: private, single engine and multi engine pilot for over 25 years, founding and chairing the Ames Airport Advisory Council, AOPA Airport Support Network Volunteer, fixed base operator management, aircraft sales, avionics sales, aircraft insurance agent, EAA Young Eagles Regional Representative, Founding Board member (and past President) for the Iowa Aviation Promotion Group and ICAS airshow producer/member (produced the Wings, Wheels & Water Festival 9/99, and as an Airshow Announcer).
